CAMÍ. Oracles (temps de sibil·les)
The Foundation Vallpalou will host, between 16th February and 31st May, the exhibition of sculptor Josep M. Camí (Espluga Calba, 1947) Oracles (temps de sibil-les). The exhibition consists of twenty medium and large format artwork pieces, which are meant to pay homage to women from different cultures, religions and ages who have devoted their lives to the struggle for peace and human rights.
The exhibition takes as reference a sixteenth century painting attributed to Jose de Soreda, Sybils Sami Cumea and Phrygia, which belongs to the collection of the Museum of Religious Art in San Gil de Atienza and has helped the artist to establish a parallel between these medieval mythology oracles with contemporary personalities as relevant as the Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Mother Teresa of Calcutta to the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo.
Graduate of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and professor of sculpture at the Massana School of this city since 1978, Josep M. Camí is one of the most internationally renowned Catalan sculptors. Some of his monumental works are installed in Spain, Portugal, South Korea, Lebanon, Taiwan and Puerto Rico.
